Masseter Reduction (Jaw Slimming) Dublin

Anti-wrinkle injections placed in the masseter muscle to ease teeth grinding and jaw clenching, and gradually soften a wide or square jaw into a more oval shape — assessed and dosed individually by Dr Paul Munsanje.

Two problems, one treatment

Most clients come to Amara Clinic Dublin for masseter reduction for one of two reasons — teeth grinding and jaw clenching (bruxism), or a wider, squarer jawline than they'd like. Anti-wrinkle injections placed into the masseter, the muscle at the angle of the jaw, address both: the injections ease the muscle's overactivity, and as it's used less, it gradually reduces in bulk — softening the jawline as a natural consequence.

Grinding & jaw clenching

An overactive masseter drives teeth grinding, jaw clenching, morning jaw tension and headaches for many people, often without realising the muscle itself is the cause. Relaxing it reduces the force behind the clenching — many clients notice this within the first couple of weeks, well before any visible change to the jawline.

A wider or squarer jaw

When an overdeveloped masseter is contributing to a heavier lower face, the same treatment gradually softens it into a more oval, contoured shape — a non-surgical alternative to jaw-reduction surgery. This effect builds over 4–6 weeks as the muscle itself reduces in bulk, not overnight.

What to expect

1

Consultation

Dr Paul assesses your masseter, bite and goals — grinding relief, jawline shape, or both — and plans your dose individually. Masseter isn't priced as a standard add-on area precisely because this varies so much person to person.

2

Treatment

A series of small injections placed across the masseter on each side. Takes around 15–20 minutes — a little longer than a standard area, to cover the muscle evenly. No sedation, no downtime.

3

The first few weeks

Many clients notice clenching feels less forceful and jaw tension eases within 1–2 weeks. Chewing tougher foods may feel mildly more tiring for a week or so while the muscle adjusts — expected, not a complication.

4

The jawline change

The visible slimming effect develops gradually over 4–6 weeks as the muscle reduces in bulk, and typically lasts 4–6 months. Reviewed at your follow-up as part of your treatment plan.

Is masseter reduction right for you?

Good candidates are healthy adults with visible masseter bulk at the jaw angle, regular teeth grinding or jaw clenching, or both. It's often combined with dermal filler along the jawline or chin for a more defined lower face, or with anti-wrinkle injections in the upper face in the same visit — your doctor builds a plan around what you're actually trying to achieve.

It isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for people with certain neuromuscular conditions, active infection at the injection site, known allergy to the treatment, or under-18s. Because dosing depends on how developed the muscle is, a proper in-person assessment — not a photo or a phone call — is how suitability and dose are confirmed at Amara Clinic Dublin.
