IPL (intense pulsed light) delivers carefully filtered flashes of light into the skin, where they’re absorbed by exactly the things you want gone: excess pigment and visible blood vessels. The pigment breaks up and flakes away; the vessels close down and fade.

It’s one of the most effective treatments for hyperpigmentation, sun damage and redness — and because Dublin skin sees more sun damage than people expect, it’s often the missing step for skin that looks tired despite a good routine.

At Amara, IPL starts with a VISIA skin scan — free, and genuinely useful: its UV photography shows pigmentation sitting under the surface before it’s visible, so we can treat comprehensively rather than chasing spots one by one.

Common questions

What does IPL cost in Dublin?

At Amara: small single area (e.g. thread veins) €150, full face €275, neck €275, full face and neck €350. A patch test is €50 and is required before your first session. Most people need one to three sessions depending on the depth of pigmentation.

Does IPL work for hyperpigmentation?

Yes — IPL is one of the most effective treatments for sun-induced pigmentation and age spots. The pigment darkens for a few days, then flakes away. Deep or hormonal pigmentation (melasma) needs careful assessment first, which is exactly what the VISIA scan is for.

Does it hurt?

Each pulse feels like a quick warm flick — most people find it very tolerable. Skin can look flushed for a few hours afterwards.

Why do I need a patch test?

Skin responds to light differently depending on your skin type and recent sun exposure. A small patch test a couple of days before your first full session confirms your settings are safe and effective.

When will I see results?

Pigmentation typically darkens then clears within one to two weeks of a session; redness and vessels improve progressively over a course. Results vary from person to person.
